Language reflects a nation—so goes a proverb that is simple, yet sharp and profound. Words mirror the self; what is outward reveals what lies within. Every utterance carries character, culture, a way of thinking, and an attitude that eventually takes shape as action and policy. Lately, it is precisely this pattern of language that has become troubling. Public officials use words far removed from elegance and egalitarianism—far from being friendly, protective, calming, and reassuring, as one would expect from a leader. Instead, what reaches the public ear is a tone that signals distance, arrogance, conceit, and even a veiled unease. 

We are witnessing a recurring pattern. Officials who ought to uphold the dignity of their office through language instead diminish their own stature through their choice of words. Public criticism is met with sarcasm. Differences are answered with tones of exclusion. Disagreement invites dismissal: those who dissent are told to leave; those who disagree are asked to step aside. These fragments form a pattern of political communication that will likely be remembered as a dark chapter in the intellectual and leadership history of the nation.

Perkembangan teknologi digital mengubah struktur komunikasi politik secara mendasar. Teknologi jaringan mempercepat produksi informasi. Platform digital memperluas distribusi pesan politik. Media sosial membuka ruang partisipasi publik dalam skala luas. Perubahan ini membentuk ruang publik baru dalam kehidupan demokrasi modern. Warga memproduksi informasi secara mandiri. Warga menyebarkan bukti visual, dokumen digital, dan rekaman peristiwa secara langsung. Proses ini memperluas pengawasan publik terhadap kekuasaan. Publik dapat memverifikasi tindakan politik melalui berbagai sumber informasi.

Perubahan ini mencipakan masalah serius. Aktor politik memproduksi klaim kebenaran dalam jumlah besar. Mereka menyebarkan narasi kemenangan secara intensif. Mereka membingkai realitas politik melalui propaganda digital. Kajian komunikasi politik menyebut fenomena ini sebagai post-truth politics. Politik jenis ini menempatkan emosi dan identitas di atas fakta empiris. Narasi politik bekerja melalui resonansi emosional dalam masyarakat.

Digital technology assigns social positioning by attaching a reputational level to individuals based on the field they pursue. In simple terms, when someone asks about a person’s name, the first response is often to conduct digital “stalking” across online platforms—to examine how far their reputation, portfolio, track record, and professional trajectory extend within their chosen field. In the academic world, this logic operates even more strongly. Numerous indexing and ranking systems effectively place scholars under a regime of measurement, where individuals become bound—and in many ways constrained—by quantifiable indicators. This reality feels suffocating, yet it remains difficult to escape, even when one is reluctant to accept it. Therefore, anyone’s arrogance about past greatness may ultimately become nothing more than a fading name and a diminishing brand, day by day, because the public and netizens judge what is displayed in those indexing and ranking systems. This condition is dangerous for those who continue to think within narrow, insular frameworks.
